West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH), one of the largest emergency food providers in New York City, is once again hosting its annual Healthy Foods Holiday Challenge (formerly known as the Turkey Challenge). In response to feedback from the communities they serve, WSCAH is pleased to share that they are offering pork shoulders as an option and limited vouchers for vegetarian customers to purchase their favorite festive foods at their local supermarket.
WSCAH distributes food across New York City through partnerships with 30 different community distribution locations. Their largest site is located at their 86th Street distribution center, where customers have been seeking food at unprecedented rates. In August 2023 at WSCAH’s 86th Street distribution, they served over 6,720 families – 57% more than last August and 89% more than August 2021. Because of the increased need, WSCAH has raised their goal and aims to provide 13,000 holiday food packages including a turkey, pork shoulder, or voucher and other special holiday foods this November. With your help, WSCAH can reach this milestone and make this holiday season memorable for every WSCAH customer.
“WSCAH has truly been a blessing to our family, We can focus on gathering together despite all the insecurities. This is the light in times of darkness. Thank you.” — WSCAH customer
