The Smith School of Music, located at 131 West 86th St., opened in 2019 and quickly became an institution for the Upper West Side community. It is a place where students of all ages and abilities come to study an instrument of their choice with passionate professionals. Students range in age from 4 to 80+, and are at varying levels of expertise.
Founded by Damien Kelly, the Smith School of Music is an after school program that shares its premises with The Smith School, an alternative education middle and high school that offers small class sizes and personalized instruction. Damien, who has been the Music Department Head at the Smith School for the last eight years, wanted to expand the Music Department and open up the program to the greater community.
