A 37-year-old man was shot and killed on 107th Street and Manhattan Avenue on Wednesday night, and a corrections officer was charged with the murder.
The call came in to police at 9:47 p.m. The victim, Steven Gadsden, was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital, marking the first homicide of the year in the precinct and the second in the city. Gadsden lived on West 114th Street.
Cardell Gadsden, 30, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal use of a firearm. The Daily News reports that Cardell is Steven’s nephew.
ABC News reported that the shooting followed a dispute inside a car involving three men.
“Investigators spent the night working to piece together what happened.
They now say three men who knew each other were arguing in the car before the driver decided to stop.
Two of the men got out and exchanged words. That’s when the fatal shots were fired.”
