Silver Stars Fitness is a unique fitness studio that specializes in working with baby boomers and beyond.
At Silver Stars, the baby boomer client typically ranges from 50 years old to the late 60’s and the generation after the boomers is between 70 and 80 years old.
Jason Greenspan, owner of Silver Stars, has 20 years of experience working with boomers. He says “the boomer and beyond client is the most diverse group in terms of fitness level and functional capacity. Aging begins when you become inactive, of course there are other factors that contribute to aging, but staying active is one thing we can control.”
“We have 60-year-olds who function like they’re 45, and 80-year-olds that function like they’re 65, so you never want to judge someone based on age, but rather on one’s functional capacity.”
Silver Stars works with clients who are extremely fit, in addition to those who have been inactive for a while and might have various orthopedic concerns.
Clients are challenged according to their fitness level and functional capabilities. According to Mr. Greenspan, there has to be a challenge in order to see results. “As we age you lose the muscle fibers that are responsible for strength and power, so if the intensity is too low, you never rebuild the muscle tissue and in turn never get stronger. “Most baby boomer & beyond fitness enthusiasts either over-train or under-train. At Silver Stars, we ensure our clients are working at the appropriate intensity, which helps not only avoid injury, but gets the result the client wants to achieve.”
TRAINING at Silver Stars
The first step is a consultation. During the consultation, trainers assess posture, balance, core strength and how well you do real life tasks, in addition to reviewing goals, fitness level and health history. The consultation is an experience by itself, as clients say “is the most informative and thorough fitness consultation they have ever attended.”
Silver Stars Fitness believes in an integrated approach where all of their clients work on balance, flexibility, core and overall strength, power, speed, agility, quickness and cardiovascular endurance and of course, nutritional and body awareness tips as well as other important reminders are given to clients when at home and not training in the gym. There are no machines or sitting at Silver Stars. Jason Greenspan says “we do enough sitting throughout the day which causes tightness and further weakens throughout the body, so in our facility we want everyone to stand, as real life requires us to perform daily activities in a standing position.”
