Two Upper West Side moms, Katy Goldman and Allison Zaslow, created B2 Events NYC, the only service offering a wide variety of activities for parents and their tweens (8-14 yrs.) to participate in together. Classes are fun for them, and sophisticated enough for their parents to learn a thing or two. It’s a win-win! Launched in Spring 2015, B2 Events NYC has hosted activities ranging from fresh pasta making to self-defense. Their Fall 2015 lineup offers even more unique opportunities to enjoy NYC together!
“Creating activities where you are learning new things together is part of the secret,” confides Katy. “No stress, no been-there-done-that-classes, just a cool and different way to have fun together,” adds Allison. Like date nights help strengthen marriages, these dates help forge bonds that last into the teen years ahead.
As highlighted in Pixar’s summer blockbuster, Inside Out, the emotional conflicts within pre-teen minds can often lead to isolation. Social media and friends may fill the gaps for some, but often leave parents in the dark. Creating new positive memories together is one way to bridge the gap.
Psychologist and child development experts have long praised the virtues of shared experiences especially during children’s most emotionally vulnerable middle years. Ms. Stiffelman, author of Parenting with Presence suggests that time together is essential in nourishing this complex relationship.
