Riverside Park will once again host Movies Under the Stars, its outdoor movie series on Pier 1 at 70th street. The series kicks off on Wednesday night starting around 8:30 p.m. with the showing of Gold Diggers of 1933. Here’s a description: “Millionaire turned composer Dick Powell rescues unemployed Broadway people with a new play.”
(Don’t you dare say “that sounds boring.” Not everything can be Transformers 3.) Next week, by the way is the Marx Brothers classic Duck Soup. This year’s theme is Song & Dance.
If you’re going, consider bringing a picnic.
Here’s the fine print for the event, from the Riverside Park Conservancy:
“Summer on the Hudson programming is free to the public. Seating is limited, unreserved, and available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning 1-2 hours before the event. If there is heavy rain at the time of the event, the event will be cancelled. No rain dates are scheduled. If attendance reaches maximum capacity management reserves the right to close participation.”
The schedule is below:
- July 17: Duck Soup (’33)
- July 24: 5,000 fingers of Dr. T (’53)
- July 31: Fiddler on the Roof (’71)
