Yoselyn Ortega, the nanny accused of killing 2 children at 57 West 75th Street, has been indicted by a grand jury on 2 counts of first-degree murder, which carries the max sentence of life without parole (she also faces 2 charges of second-degree murder). First-degree murder charges were brought only 27 times in the state in 2011. “It is reserved for the most heinous homicides, including serial killings, the killings of judges and cops, and killings deemed cruel and wanton.” Ortega is still in the hospital.
