Notices:
The Film Society of Lincoln Center is presenting a special screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s tonight at 7 at Alice Tully Hall to mark the 50th anniversary of the film. Julie Andrews will be making an appearance. There are still some $15 tickets left. If you’re not into Audrey Hepburn (gasp), there are lots of other free and cheap local events today.
An exhibit about hats just opened at the Bard Graduate center at 18 West 86th Street.
News:
The city just announced a bike share program where a vendor will set up bike docking stations throughout the city so people can rent the bikes and then drop them off at the docking station nearest to their destination. The program will start with 10,000 bikes and 600 docking stations, and will be run by Alta Bike Share out of Oregon. The city will be soliciting opinions on where exactly the bike stations should go. It sounds like the stations will go as far North as 79th Street on the West Side to start and run into Brooklyn, but that may be flexible. You can offer input on where you think they should go here. A membership to use the bikes will cost $100 a year, and the first 30 minutes of each trip will be free. After that, there may be a fee. (New York Observer and Transportation Nation)
Openings updates: The new Century 21 on 66th Street and Broadway is having a special VIP opening today. To be a VIP, all you have to do is give them your email and address (sign up sheets will probably be outside the store as they have been this week)… Borders in the Time Warner Center closed for good yesterday. No word yet on what will replace it…The Upper West Side Momofuku Milk Bar is now expected to open on September 24.
