On Thursday, May 16th at 8pm, Nona Hendryx, along with an all-woman band, pays tribute to the ferocious funk disrupter and agitator Betty Davis, whose influence rippled through the decades. Musical director Etienne Stadwijk.
“Betty Davis was an iconoclast, a shape shifter, and a woman on fire—singing and setting alight everything in her path. Nona Hendryx is a star and an innovator. From La Belle to Material to her ongoing solo work. Some of her shows at places like Danceteria with Ronny Drayton in her band were legendary. Great chance to see her in the local.
And Nona Hendryx is probably one of the few who can offer a worthy tribute to Betty Davis, who was a funk innovator at least a decade ahead of her time.
