A fire broke out in the basement of 474 Columbus Avenue, between West 82nd and 83rd streets, at around 3:19 p.m. on Friday, according to the FDNY. The five-story building is the location of the Thyme & Tonic restaurant and a corner deli.
“There was a huge presence of fire engines and EMS,” wrote tipster Ed Hersh, but the FDNY reported that there were no injuries. The fire was under control by 3:52 p.m. The cause is still under investigation.

Love Thyme and Tonic hope they are not damaged
Don’t street dining shacks get in the way of firefighters doing their jobs?
The dining shacks definitely get in the way on the narrow streets in Greenwich Village, Little Italy.
In some instances fire trucks don’t have sufficient room to to raise ladder apparatus, have trouble turning corners due to sheds.
FDNY raised those issues….
Looks like the restaurant street shed partially blocked FDNY
There was another huge fire yesterday in the late afternoon at Broadway and 93rd Street, The building on the SE corner had several fire trucks and many ambulances around it and broken windows on both sides of the building on the floor just below the top floor. Didn’t see smoke or windows breaking at 6 pm as we passed, so it must have started earlier
The Fire House is 1 block away, happy it was controlled quickly….
Wrong, That firehouse has been closed for over a year & is still under construction so it is still closed!
That fire house has been closed for renovation for a while now.
