Sundays at JASA (Jewish Association for Services for the Aged) has been offering college-level continuing education classes for adults age 50+ for the last 30 years. Headquartered at 247 West 37th Street, Sundays at JASA went virtual as soon as COVID-19 hit. JASA is proud to be the go-to agency for older New Yorkers.
Seniors classes on Zoom have been very successful. According to Program Director Joe George, they now have students all over the U.S. and Canada. JASA is offering 17 courses with 9 of them accessed by phone including their lunchtime lecture series.
JASA classes are now taking place on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday with no classes overlapping to ensure one can take as many classes possible. A tuition fee of $185 includes the entire catalog of courses for ten weeks.
Due to the covid lockdown, they are offering more health, body, and mind courses such as Chair Yoga, Pilates and Monday Morning Meditation. Other new courses are Philosophy Made Easy and New York Short Stories. Of course many favorite classes will return this Spring. A few classes will be offered in a one day free trial on February 15, with American History, Major Legal Controversies and Broadway Mixtape.
JASA is a great place to spend your time engaged with a variety of college level humanities courses. It’s courses offer something for everyone including, drawing, opera, masterpieces of art, drama and their popular crossword construction course.
The virtual classes have been such a success, JASA has considered offering some virtual classes moving forward, even after they return to in-place instruction, hopefully next fall.
