Benches are a little too toasty for comfort. Photo by Roman B.
The recent heat wave is cooking the benches and other surfaces in Central Park. NBC took an infrared thermometer out to the park to test surfaces and it showed some steamy numbers.
Like 145.5 degrees for a bench.
149 degrees on artificial turf.
94.2 on natural grass.
113.3 on a rock formation.
160.7 on rubber ground.
103.1 on a playground swing.
And 124.7 on a metal playground structure.
Please remember this when walking your dog on hot pavement!
