Police are looking for a man who they say grabbed two girls inside Shake Shack at 77th street and Columbus around 11:30 a.m. on Monday. The man is depicted in the video above.
“[A]n unidentified male approached a 12-year-old female victim on the stairs between the downstairs dining area and the street level and grabbed her wrist. The victim pulled away and the suspect continued downstairs. Five to ten minutes later, the same male approached a 13-year-old female victim outside of the location, asked her name and hug and kissed her right cheek. The victim pulled away and the suspect fled on foot on Columbus Avenue.”
“He is described as being 5’6″ and 155 pounds with black hair, and wearing a black waist-length leather jacket, dark blue pants and black sneakers,” according to Gothamist.
Anyone with information about this is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

Are we not using race/color to describe people anymore? White guy? Black guy? Hispanic?
Yes you can tell fro the video the race of the suspect. However, Eddie raises a good point. In numerous descriptions of a suspect, they mention every possible factor that might help EXCEPT race. Obviously, makes no sense if you are really trying to describe suspect. Though it’s not politically correct, unfortunately a very high percentage of suspects are non-White. No one who can walk and talk is surprised that is the case. Though clearly all Blacks are not criminals, the flip is that virtually all criminals are Black. Seems foolish to leave it out-when I see that omission I just assume the info is omitted because suspect is Black (or Hispanic.) Just life in the Big City.
I’m guessing that you didn’t look at the picture.
Exactly! Sean.
I agree with Eddie. Important absence in the description.
Who would have ever thought that Shake Shake in the middle of the day would be a dangerous place. Disturbing.
Believe it or not, everywhere Can be dangerous! Unfortunately!
Shake Shack has a management problem. On more than one occasion I’ve had incidents with works and costumes there and I finally alerted the manager and he suggested I was trying to get a free meal by complaining. He did not take me seriously and of course nothing improved.
Shake shack is a hang out for kids from the schools on that block and that downstairs area can be very empty on a day when there are few customers, surely, the perpetrator is aware of this and knew exactly what he was doing. I hope they get him before he is successful.
yes sure , now every business in the city have to hire security guards . maybe the mayor should bring back the stop and frisk and let the cops do their jobs and stop this race discrimination BS .
“I’ve had incidents with works and costumes”
what the hell are “works and costumes?”
anyone know what the heck this person is talking about? translate please
It’s called ‘auto correct’ on smart phones and tablets, but it is apparently not called “read your post before clicking ‘Send/Post'”. 🙂
I’m assuming they meant workers and customers and I will assume that you already knew that but decided to call attention to something trivial and out on context from the real discussion because spelling is oh so important to you in the scheme of things.
I didn’t understand either.
To lauren:
Many of us didn’t understand that Typo–whatever your attitude problem is-please keep it to yourself. You’re wasting time and space.
no, I actually didn’t know what they meant. Those aren’t mere spelling errors and thought they were maybe some type of euphemism. But thanks for assuming incorrectly and typing out a combative comment. Go crawl back in your hole now, Lauren
Sounds like Lauren has been spending too much time at Shake Shack.
Just chiming in that I didn’t have a clue what it meant either.
I didn’t understand either. I thought it might have been school work and costumes. There are performers who live and work around there.
Nevertheless it is disturbing that any eatery at this location should not be safe for young people. I hope SS is hiring security guards until the suspect is caught.
I didn’t understand either.
Just a suggestion , , , next time you have a problem, especially one concerning a life or safety issue, go on-line and look them up. They are managed by a Corporate Team consisting of a CEO, VP of Operations, etc. Write a letter to their VP of Operations, and copy the CEO, Community Board Seven, and the 20 Precinct (if safety related) or FDNY House 25 (if a fire safety issue). Trust me, you’ll get Shake Shack’s attention. You might cost the manager his job, but you’ll get action on your concern.
Was he whit – black – Asian -? Stop the PC!
Yes!! Stop the PC–we need to grow up-. We Need Actual inforMation.
Kanye?
“Works and costumes” was in common useage during the big depression of the 1930s. “Works” refers to the Department of Public Works, the DPW. Often employees of the Works, not wishing to be recognized would arrive at their job in a costume. The Eleanor Roosevelt costume was very popular. As revealed by the Hoover Commission, Franklin himself was often unaware the so-called First Lady was sometimes a Works employee in a costume.
