Police are offering a reward for information:
The public can submit tips anonymously by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting 274637(CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
And an excellent photo it is. If it is these guys, I wish them luck, ‘cos they’re gonna need it! My advice is canvass the Douglass Projects.
White hat lives in the housing projects on 93rd st and Amsterdam. Gray hoody and glasses is a homeless guy that wanders the neighborhood a few days and then disappears for months. He is bald with a beard.
For anyone wondering, I called what Jay posted above in to the tips hotline. Couldn’t tell whether anyone had.
yeah, seriously, this is the wrong place to make that “report”, for any number of reasons. if you want to help, do what it says on the police flyer.
Bruce would prefer you not mention on a public forum that a criminal suspect may live in the projects.
… but surely, as a fair minded person, you want to avoid stereotyping and stigmatizing Douglass Houses and other public housing on the UWS.
stigmatizing is “true”? i guess you’re not a fair minded person.
It’s not a stereotype if it’s true.
no, i prefer if he or she has REAL information that he report it privately to the police, rather than spread it around on a public website. and if he DOESN’T have real information, then he is just spreading false rumors. in both cases it is damaging and stupid in a case like this.
sorry, i don’t agree with you. even if the information is accurate, in no way does it help to post it here anonymously. At the very least it lets the criminals know what sort of tips are out there.
This is a public forum and anyone can post information/opinion/reaction. You, Mr. Bernstein, have zero idea of whether the poster already submitted info and tips to the police and then also shared the info here. You simply assumed. Lastly, there is value in publicly shared information and not censoring. A tip like the above one on a site with many readers might help others remember seeing the suspects or link these pictures to past sightings and other/further information that could help the police capture the actual criminal. Agree with you that info needs to be shared with police and a comment simply saying “that could be valuable info – has it been shared with the nypd?” encourages that.
@Jay You told police this, right? You could be the next Debbie Dills.
Note that these are two separate pictures. The first has a guy in a sleeveless gray hoodie – no glasses or facial hair, wearing a white t-shirt under the hoodie. In the second pic it shows the same guy in the dark blue sweatshirt with white had and a different guy in a gray hoodie, which is long-sleave, walking ahead of the the other guys, wearing sunglasses and what looks like stubble on his face and wearing some nice shoes for a “homeless” guy. But I agree — nice clear pics. Hope they get posted in the area and on TV.
@Lefttheuws – I was addressing a previous poster (Jay) who only mentioned two of the people in pic #2 and referred to one of them as a “homeless guy”. He apparently didn’t notice the third guy lagging behind.
Try reading ALL the posts next time. Take a look at “Jay” and “Bryan” and “S”. I just clarified what was said and added the third guy which he didn’t discuss.
You’re a dick.
You are a dick!
Wow Jezbel, I guess it takes one to know one.
Happy Father’s Day one and all.
Wow! @jezbel I guess all black guys look the same to you. First pic is two of the three. Second pic has first two plus a third. Note the guy in the short sleeve hoodie is also in the second one. Wouldn’t want you as an eye witness.
That’s pretty much what she said. Your anger is really misplaced here.
LOL hands up don’t shoot LOL black people don’t commit crimes – this is the UWS after all…
Cat, people of all colors commit all kinds of crimes, and you know it. In fact, people of color get harsher punishments for lesser crimes, and get killed for minor offenses more often than their white peers. Also, white folks commit so much white collar crime it would make your head explode. Their crimes ruin lives, the economy, and the environment all the time. I find your comment to be truly offensive, and it reflects a very poor understanding of what really goes on in the world. PS- for those of you ready to tell me I’m a DeBlasio-lovin’, left wing, laced cuffed liberal: I’m none of the above. I simply educate myself about what’s going on in our country.
Just so you know the facts black men commit about fifty percent of the murders in this country despite being only 6-7% of the population. Mostly they kill other young black men. According to the FBI about 300 whites a year are killed by black men and about 400 blacks a year are killed by white men. White men kill couple of thousand other white guys also. Most murders are committed with handguns while about 700 murders a year are committed with long guns of any kind. Google “fbi expanded homicide data” and see for yourself.
Thanks for the input from Charleston, Mr. Roof.

Thank you for your apology. I realize my thought here is not the one that is heard often. I spent two years working on the South Side of Chicago and only learned that as a suburb raised white man I could never fully understand the African American experience. I spent time talking to folks there about the rise of the gangs and the violence. I saw first hand what the man who trained me (a black south side native) taught me. That 98% of the people there are just trying to make their way in this world. There live are made very hard by 2% who have themselves become trapped in a cycle of violence that predates them by decades. Until we are willing to face the full implications of this cycle it will be hard to break it. I wish I had an answer but I only have an intuition that what some people would call reparations should be invested in making huge changes in education and mentoring. People like you and your fiancee are on the front line but we need leadership in Washington that is ready to drive a similar awakening in the rest of America. Again thank you.
Ted, I rarely think twice about flames on comment threads, but I realize I completely misread what you were saying. I apologize. (FWIW, my fiancee and I are deeply involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs in an effort to stem exactly the tide you are referring to, and we encourage others to look into this great charity as well.)
Not Charleston, two time Obama voter who supports inclusion, reproductive and LGBT rights. You are uncomfortable with facts? I wonder why. The truth is in this country we have failed generation after generation of young black men. We beat our chests if a cop or a heinous bigot claims a black life but we liberals sit idly by as hundreds die at each others hands on the South Side of Chicago. We ignore the huge systemic problems that push these young men into a deadly meat grinder. Look past your UWS liberal tropes and start the fight to really help these young men.
To be fair, our justice system is not designed to protect the victim. After you testify you are thrown on the same streets as the criminal. Whether it is mishandling by the cops or by the court. The only loser in many cases is the witness. Many of these criminals are offered better living conditions then when they are free. 3 Meals, clean, unlimited free time, medical, dental, education, excercise. Go to any other country and see how their criminals are being treated. Unfair but its reality.
For some black lives do not matter.
Seems like the men in this pic agree with that sentiment. If their own lives (or anyone else’s) mattered to them, perhaps they’d do better.
