A mini-dachsund named Duck slipped away from a dog-walker on Monday morning on 100th street and Central Park West and had still not been found as of 5 p.m. Monday afternoon. Duck was lost around 10:30 a.m. and then seen shortly afterwards at the Great Hill in Central Park. Chasing him doesn’t seem to work, says owner Sam Roth. It might be better to offer him food to lure him closer, he suggested.
If you find him, call 914-330-5692.
This is not the first time a dog has slipped away from a dog walker in the neighborhood.
Thanks, Avi, for posting this.
Please tell me you found him?
Our Hildy looks exactly the same. I walk her often over 103 105 to central. I was asked numerous times by the same guy ” how much she cost” I always ignore but hear him ramble about how much he could ” get” with one of those wiener dogs.
Thank you for posting this!
We haven’t found our Duck yet. Please keep looking for him! He is skittish, so rather than chasing him, please call Sam or me at (914) 330-5692 or (626) 940-6611.
Helena,
We’re headed out for a walk shortly and will head over (again) to that area of the park.
Fingers crossed.
Thank you! Please keep looking for him. This is night #2 without him, and we are heartbroken.
Heartbreaking – I have a dog and I live on 106 and B’dway….will be on the lookout! Hope you are reunited very soon.
how sad! will certainly keep an eye out for duck I hope he finds his family
Fingers crossed on finding Duck. I will keep an eye out for him.
Any luck Helena or Sam?
Thanks, everyone, for the encouraging words!
We haven’t found Duck yet, but we got a report that someone saw Duck yesterday, moving along the inside of the park’s northern wall. This may mean he’s in the northeast corner of the park.
Please keep your eyes open for Duck!
Don’t forget to keep checking with the Manhattan AC&C center as well as Craig’s List (in case someone snags him and tries to resell – to Tracy’s point). Fingers crossed! At least it’s warmer weather right now. Keep us posted!
We are doing that everyday. Please keep looking for him and share with your FB friends. We need as much help as we can get so that Duck comes home safe.
Any luck? My wife went out looking in North Woods with our dog and is going to head back out there today
They are always texting.
I run into the stressed out dogwalkers yesterday and will also be on the lookout for Duck during our walks. Good luck!
Thank you!
Hi everyone — thanks so much for the words of support. No luck yet, but the search for Duck continues!
Hi everyone,
Tonight is Night #3, and still no Duck. Please keep looking for our boy!
Helena
I just found the story. It wasn’t two months, it was two years! They laid out the dog’s bed and some of their clothing, and then found the dog sleeping on it. https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-dog-missing-two-years-reunited-20140619-story.html
Helena – I just remembered a story I read a little while ago. A family lost their dog in the woods – he was missing for something like 2 months! Someone told them to lay out a piece of clothing that they had been wearing, and that the dog would find that through its sense of smell. They tried it, watched the spot, and it worked! Perhaps you could take something of yours, some piece of clothing, and lay it out, and then keep watch on the spot?
I’m available Saturday morning if you want to organize a canvas of the north end of the park. Please reply back in the comments. Thinking good thoughts for Duck.
Great idea! I would be available to help search as well.
My 11 year old and I would also be available on Saturday morning if someone can organize a canvas.

I’m a local UWS neighbor and I’d be happy to help canvas the park Saturday morning as well.
Thank you to those of you that can volunteer Saturday morning. Why don’t we plan to meet at the NE corner of 86th & CPW at 6.30am. I know it’s early, but the park will still be fairly quiet, improving our chances of finding Duck. Please bring your cell phone, a Tupperware of dry chow to make noise with and a blanket or towel. If there are enough of us, we can coordinate our compasses and cover the northern end of the park simultaneously. You can reach me at carriecas at gmail dot com if you have questions. I will post a message confirming the canvas friday by 9pm. Let’s do everything we can to bring this little dog home.
Hildy and I can be there. We need to find Duck. Does he respond to a squeaky ball?
Ouch, so early! I will try. If not then we will spend some time out during the day, and I will put my son and his friends on it.
Is it light out at 6:30?
Hi Cassie, I know it’s early, but it will be light. Much later and the park starts filling up. If Duck is skittish, he surely hides during the busy hours. Hopefully enough of us will turn out to do an effective canvas.
Carrie, to the point of my comments to Helena above on the owners who found their dog by laying out the dog’s bed and some of their clothing, perhaps we can coordinate with the owners to set out his bed and some pieces of their clothing tonight, and we can check that first thing tomorrow morning when we start looking? It worked for a dog missing for 2 years, it may work here!
DUCK UPDATE: We received a phone call from a woman who saw Duck on Monday morning running north up Adam Clayton Powell Bldv. (7th Ave.) and turning east along 112th or 113th st. If you’re out looking for Duck today, please post some flyers in Manhattan Valley / lower Harlem! #FindDuck!
