The balcony of an apartment on the 8th floor of the 14-story building at 165 west 66th street burst into flames on Sunday afternoon, drawing about 60 firefighters to the scene. No one was reported injured in the blaze and the cause was still unclear.
The fire was reported at 1:45 p.m. and was under control as of 2:29 p.m., FDNY tells us.
Thanks to Shimon Prokupecz and Tessa Abrahams for the photos.
Correction: we originally reported that the fire had destroyed the apartment; but a commenter notes that it stayed on the balcony.
I live in the building at 165w66st
and the scoop is that this fire started
on the balcony and stayed on the balcony.
Nothing went inside the apartment, other
then water from outside. So the apartment was by not means destroyed.

Was someone using a BBQ or something?
I lived on the 7th floor a couple of months ago and would not imagine a fire in a very nice building!
