There are tons of Halloween events on the Upper West Side, and many are taking place this weekend.

Friday, October 25
4 p.m. (until 7 p.m.)
Sneak Peek: NY”Z” Scream Haunted House Get a preview of this haunted house filled with zombies–part of Saturday’s NYC Parks Pumpkin Fest (see below). Central Park at Bethesda Fountain. FREE.

7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Procession of the Ghouls, following a screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Join the Mettawee River Theater Company and their infernal puppets for a spooky night in the Cathedral! The film this year will be the classic German Expressionist horror story The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. At the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. $20.

Saturday, October 26

NYC Parks Pumpkin Fest JoinNYC Parks for Pumpkin Fest, New York City’s annual celebration of the fall harvest season in leafy Central Park! Activities include: a haunted house, pumpkin patch–kids take home a free sugar pumpkin, a decorating zone, live quidditch matches, a doggie costume contest, marionette performances and more. Central Park Bandshell. Enter at 72nd Street. FREE.

2:30 (until 5:30 p.m.)
Halloween Fiesta Mobilization for Change Garden hosts this family friendly annual Halloween fiesta with a pinata, prizes, and games. Fun for all ages. Mobilization for Change Garden, 107th street and Columbus Avenue. FREE.

Sunday, October 27
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
PS 166 Haunted Halloween   This annual neighborhood event draws families from all over the Upper West Side and beyond.  The street is closed off and transformed as bouncy castles, inflatable sides, an obstacle courses and  a cool maze make this a kid’s paradise. Continue on to the schoolyard and you will find craft tables hosted by Make Meaning, Face Painting, Cupcake Decorating and fun games of all kinds.  Attractions include PS166′s infamous Haunted House – not for the faint at heart nor youngest patrons (only ages 8+ please).  So whether your kids are 4 or 14, there’s something for everyone.  Tickets $1 (rides, games and food vary in cost from 3 to 6 tickets); All-Day Activity Bracelets $50 (includes access to wide variety of rides and games); Free Activities include:  Chess, Coloring & Sticker Station and Costume Contest. At PS 166 89th Street between  Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue.

Floral Halloween Party At the Dog Run on 72 Street and Riverside Drive.

4-6:30pm.
Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail Wear your costume and bring a carved jack-o’-lantern before 5:30 pm for spooky music, crafts, live entertainment, a parade, and New York City’s largest pumpkin flotilla at twilight! Please check centralparknyc.org/halloween for jack-o’-lantern size, weight, and decoration restrictions.Space in the Pumpkin Sail is limited. No advance registration. All ages.

Tuesday, October 29

Haunted House! Halloween event for kids. At Church of St. Paul & St. Andrew, 86th street and West End Avenue.

Thursday, October 31
3:45 p.m. until 5:45 p.m.
Hippo Halloween Parade Grab your costumes out of the closet, bring the family out and join the Hippo Playground Project for some more Halloween fun. Gather at the Soldiers Monument (89th Street & Riverside Drive) in your costume and follow the bagpipers to the Hippo Playground, where you can join us for some free cider and donuts. Meet at the Soldiers’ & Sailors Monument, RIverside Drive and W. 89th Street. FREE.

4 p.m. (until 7 p.m.)
18th Annual Halloween Celebration  Join the Museum of Natural History for loads of Halloween fun throughout the Museum’s halls! Including: trick-or-treating, live music, magic, arts and crafts, origami and roaming characters—including Olivia, Wild Thing, Clifford, and Curious George. Come in your Halloween costume! American Museum of Natural History. $11 per person; $10 for museum members.

Evening Block Parties
There are block parties on 69th street between Broadway and CPW and 90th from Columbus to CPW in the early evening, but they do tend to attract very large crowds. Residents on 90th are attempting to limit the party to people who live on the block, and we’ve heard from people on 69th street that the party does get a little overwhelming with hundreds of people crowding onto the block. It’s over by 7. There’s also usually a block party on 87th between Riverside and West End.
