One of the men suspected of being involved in a chase on the West Side Highway Sunday that ended with a 33-year-old man getting beaten has been arrested, and another man is being held, although he hasn’t been charged.
Christopher Cruz, a 28-year-old from New Jersey, was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child. A two-year-old was in the back seat of driver Alexian Lien’s car.
Police “say Cruz was the rider who tried to slow the black Range Rover down while the motorcyclists were driving on the Henry Hudson Parkway Sunday afternoon,” NY1 reported. In a helmet-cam video, one of the bikers appears to deliberately slow down in front of Lien’s SUV, forcing a collision, which led to the chase and beating.
Police had not named the second person, and it’s not clear if that person will be charged with a crime, according to NY1.
Update: The family of the biker who was hit by the car says his legs were broken and he is partially paralyzed. A video has also surfaced that supposedly indicates this group of bikers also harrassed other drivers. Another person allegedly involved in the attack was arrested Thursday.
The bikers are lucky the guy in the range rover wasn’t armed. I am glad the driver and his family are safe.
When people think they can get away with anything because they are nasty, mean and tough this is what happens. Innocent people get harassed. A previous story said that the police were aware that the the bikers intended to be on the road in packs. Why were there no patrols?
The SUV driver was Asian. The biker attackers were black & Hispanic. I wonder if Obama, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton and the NY Times editorial board will declare this a racial attack and take to the streets in protest, demanding action.
It’s a racial attack if the attack is racially motivated. This attack was motivated by the SUV bumping the biker. The biker had cut in front of the SUV and slowed down to allow the other bikers to speed by and have the entire highway to themselves.
@chris
Had the SUV driver been armed you have NO idea what would have happened. He might of accidentally shot his wife fumbling in panic for his gun. He might of shot one of the bikers only to be pulled from the car and beat to death. He might of shot and hit bikers who weren’t involved. Or he might of been fired upon by other bikers killing his entire family (including baby) in a hail of bullets.
Only cowards and simple thinkers think guns are the answer to a question. Notice no one got killed, right? And the reason is due to no guns being involved.
