Upper West Side residents have donated more money to the 2024 Democratic presidential campaign candidates than any other neighborhood in New York City, according to new data and an interactive map from the Washington Post.
The four ZIP codes that make up the Upper West Side have raised $6.2 million from 20,350 donors for the Kamala Harris and Joe Biden campaigns, according to the Washington Post, a lofty total that is larger than any other neighborhood in New York City — and appears to be one of the largest in the country.
By comparison, throughout the 10025, 10024, 10023, and 10069 ZIP codes, there were 822 residents who donated to Donald Trump’s campaign, according to the Washington Post. In total, those residents raised around $750,000, according to the data.
The Post reported the number of donors and amounts raised for candidates during this presidential election cycle thus far, including every ZIP code in the United States. The numbers were put together by assembling online filings of individual donations for former President Donald Trump, from the time he launched his reelection campaign on November 15, 2022, though September 30, 2024, as well as filings for both President Joe Biden’s and Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaigns.
In terms of bigger picture takeaways, Harris has raised more than $1 billion since she entered the race in July, while Trump continues to see a large amount of donations from men under the age of 35.
While the Rag was not able to check every ZIP code in the United States on the Post’s fundraising map, after a half hour of looking, we were not able to find a neighborhood that matched the Upper West Side’s more than $6 million in funding for Democratic candidates, including in Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, Portland, Austin, or Atlanta.
We defined neighborhoods by searching for the most populous communities in the above listed large cities, and then adding up the fundraising totals for two to six adjacent ZIP codes that are generally considered to encompass one neighborhood within them.
In other words, we were not able to rule out that the Upper West Side donated more money to Biden and Harris this election cycle than any neighborhood in the country.
The 10024 ZIP code, which includes the neighborhood from West 76th to West 92nd streets, stood out locally in its support of Trump, with $500,000 of the total coming from the area, the Post’s data shows.
The other handful of ZIP codes in Manhattan that individually reached the $1 million mark for donations to Harris and Biden included two on the Upper East Side, 10128 and 10028, along with 10003 and 10011 in Greenwich Village, the latter of which was the only other ZIP code in the borough to hit the $2 million total, according to the Post.
For comparison to the $6.2 million raised on the Upper West Side for the two democratic presidential candidates, the six ZIP codes commonly considered to represent the Upper East Side raised around $4.1 million during the same period.
Staten Island was the lone borough in the city that saw more donors for Trump than Biden or Harris, and there were also a few ZIP codes in Brooklyn and Queens that had more financial support for the Republican candidate.
Here is the presidential candidate fundraising breakdown of the four Upper West Side ZIP codes.

Looks to be roughly proportional to their polling proportions (85%/15% or so).
I think it is sad that this much money is used for an election at all. Think of how much good all these millions of dollars could do to help those truly in need in our country. Instead it goes to the poisonous political system we have that are full of self-serving liars on both sides.
Need to end Citizens United and get money out of politics. It has to be a mutual “disarmament” via legislation or neither side will choose to be at a fundraising disadvantage.
I’ve been saying for years that three simple rules will address 95% of campaign finance reform:
1. If you can’t vote, you can’t donate. Sorry, Koch Industries.
2. You can’t donate to a candidate that’s running in an election you can’t vote in. This gets rid of out-of-state influence in local elections.
3. The maximum donation amount should be keyed to the median income, such that it’s an amount that the average American could afford to donate, if the wished to do so. This way, Elon Musk has no more financial influence than the guy who fixes your car.
And all of the Trump donors post on WSR lol
God has blessed the Upper West.
I was born and raised in the UWS since 1967 (still in the same bldg). I remember in 1997 being told that I should vote for Fernando Ferrer, who was running for Mayor, because he was latino and I was a latino. I was insulted at being told who I shoud vote for. It was at that time that I decided to educate myself on where I stood on the political spectrum. As a son of hard working immigrants who entered the US by following the process, I was able to take advantage of the opportunity my parents sacrificed for me. My mom/dad have always been proud to say that they never took a penny from the government. While goverment assistance was available, my dad would rather work four jobs , if he had to, rather than accept a ‘hand me down.”
Long story short, I realized that my conservative values where more in line with the Republican Party and have been a Republican ever since. In a sense, I am truely a minority in the UWS: latino, conservative, and a Republican. Over the last ten years, I’ve witnessed a growing number of Republicans in not only NYC, but in the UWS. And surprisingly, most are minorities like myself (hispanic, black, asian, etc.). My friends in upstate NY are always chiding me that it is always NYC that keeps the State along Democratice Party lines. Waiting for the day that us minorities, along with non-minorities, flip NYC! With every passing election, it is getting closer and closer.
It’s certainly going to get Trump re-elected. He’s going to have record support from Latinos, Asians, black men and Jews this election. Democrats tirelessly play the identity card, but ironically the only people that motivates are rich, white folks!
Trump lost NYC by 90% 😂
Voice of sanity. It is refreshing.
At one point I had intended to donate a few billion dollars to Harris/Walz, but then I remembered my name isn’t Elon Musk.
Responding to “UWS Redident” who said:
“I’ve witnessed a growing number of Republicans in not only NYC, but in the UWS. And surprisingly, most are minorities like myself (hispanic, black, asian, etc.).”
Which succinctly lays out groups that Trump would rather the U.S. be without (e.g. , mass deportation, s-hole countries, etc.).
And he somehow gets your vote.
