Gov. Tim Walz was spotted jogging in Central Park hours before the vice presidential debate on Tuesday night.
Walz was seen cooling down from his run near West 72nd Street within the park around 5:15 p.m.
The Democratic vice presidential candidate was trailed by multiple secret service agents jogging alongside him, and also a convoy of several black SUVs that followed slowly 50 feet behind, according to multiple eyewitnesses.
Walz was in Manhattan for the vice presidential debate at 9 p.m. with Sen. JD Vance, which took place at the CBS Broadcast Center, an 800,000 square-foot space at 524 West 57th Street.
“A few hours before the VP debate tonight I saw Tim Walz finishing a jog through Central Park,” Crain’s reporter Nick Garber wrote on social media. “Trailed by a few secret service guys but recognized by seemingly no one.”
A different person responded, “Ah, the anonymity of New York.”
A jog in Central Park to clear one’s head will be relatable to at least a chunk of Upper West Siders.

I don’t think it’ll appear relatable to jog with multiple bodyguards and a convoy of black SUVs.
Wish he spent that time prepping.
you need not prep so much when you are speaking the truth !
You better preach that, Lizzy!!! Walz did a great, solid job. Shady Vance just made sure his eye makeup and lip gloss were on point whilst spewing lies of bs from his mouth like the miscreant he is.
And he was seen w his wife grabbing a slice at Justino’s on 10th & 57 st!
He was in the Park this morning with Secret Service for a run around the Reservoir.
Go Tim, go!
Saw the motorcade on w72 “transverse” yesterday – few SUVs with windows open and dudes with battle gear and machineguns on display.
If he’s not posting it on Strava, it doesn’t count.
I ran in the park twice this week. Where’s my news story?
Glad he did the run. He was nervous at the start, but his experience and authority came through in the debate. Go Tim.
He was nervous, but it’s natural to feel nervous-especially if you’re consistently having to tell these MAGAts that nobody eats domestic animals or is taking jobs away from black and brown Americans. 🙄He showed up and showed out-ESPECIALLY with the last question he mic-dropped on Shady Vance.
Given his performance, he would have been better served by spending that time preparing.
To the comment above from “good humor,” I get some of my best ideas and clarity of thought from walking (though not jogging at my age) in Central Park.
You’d be surprised who’s jogging
In Central Park… but us New Yorkers have so much on our minds. We’re just overwhelmed and jaded don’t recognize anybody in the fame world and I speak for myself as well…. it’s not amazing, it’s just who we are living in a 9 million person city. We’re just the type of people that want to leave people alone in their thoughts when you’re in Central Park that’s what it’s meant for giving your brain rest, we New Yorkers “zone out” Central Park. I’m in Central Park 2 to 3 times a day for hours with my pup and seldom have I ever met someone of any kind of fame.
I like it that way… 👍
I thought that was him. He passed me at a 81th St. I was sitting on the hill (park drive) near Winterdale Arch bridge with my dog Zac.
In the 31+ years I lived on the UWS, I must have passed by hundreds of “celebrities” without having known whom they were. The only one I ever actually recognized was Jerry Nadler and that’s because I had to move onto the street due to him taking up the entire sidewalk!
@good humor, it’s actually relatable because he (or the s. service) overestimated the threat level for a VP candidate exercising in CP.. Lol, he probably reads the WSR regularly 😃. Vance left his MAGA hat at home and hid in his hotel room.
Btw, The NYPD tracked down and arrested the S.I. man who punched the 81 y.o. woman on W. 66th street.
Good for him for getting some exercise in the fresh air. Not sure why that is news, really. Lots of people jog and walk and bike and relax in the park everyday. Some more famous than others, all of them enjoying the People’s Park.
Too bad he didn’t spend that time prepping for the debate. Vance destroyed him. Ugh
