With temperatures finally warming up, a bustling Central Park welcomed a mix of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world this past weekend. Body-culture people practiced their chin-ups, and musicians from near and far busked their music in such standard locations as the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, where four jazz enthusiasts from Japan entertained those seated and absorbing the sun’s warm rays.
Asked the name of their group, the band’s leader answered “Park West Trio,” despite there being four members: Tseyo on sax, Shinya on guitar, Yuki on stand-up string bass, and Daisuke on percussion. Tseyo insisted they were a throw-together group, yet their sound was well coordinated and it was clear they were masters of their craft. The melody, variations and rhythms were well received and remunerated by an appreciative audience. Take a listen:
