Grand Bazaar NYC of the Upper West Side has long been a hub of creativity for shoppers and independent vendors alike. Looking ahead at the next several months, the flea market, located on West 77th Street and Columbus Avenue, plans to host a variety of exciting seasonal events and themed weekends.
Grand Bazaar NYC is the oldest flea market in New York City, founded in 1979 by parents raising money for their children’s schools. All profits of Grand Bazaar NYC are given back to the community, helping to support four local public schools.

Wonderful to have this listing. Do you have a list for UWS Street Fairs?
The Grand Bazaar, combined with the adjacent Farmers’ Market, is the best reason for staying in town on summer Sundays. The one thing that would make the Bazaar friendlier, especially for those with mobility issues, would be a couple of picnic tables in a corner near the food stalls. After a long wait in line for some of the most popular offerings, it would be nice to be able to sit down with the food instead of trying to eat with one hand, balance a cane in the other, and attempt to keep the delicious juices from dripping down the front of your shirt. The benches on the perimeter of the schoolyard are fine if you can snag one, but too few, too far and usually too full. Think about it, organizers? Thanks.
also a restroom if you are offering food and drink
Our neighborhood has so much to offer!!
Kudos to the Rag for reminding us …!
I was going to post something similar before someone took liberty mimicking my screen name.
No, it’s the same stuff every weekend, it’s over priced, and the selection is oft boring.
One of the ostensible “curated” weekends (Sundays) was supposed to have old electronics 2 years ago. There was one very small table with radios from the 1950s, really 1960s. That was about the only difference from the week before.
20 years ago, the selection was much better.
The tables out on Columbus are much better.
The green market on the other side of Columbus is good, but no good whole chickens (or parts).
Couldn’t agree more. We go every Sunday after viewing produce around AMNH. Same old stuff. Chelsea Flee is way more interesting. Aside from pickles we rarely buy anything though we do buy at Chelsea. Grand Bazaar is way overrated. Only thing worse and the street fairs which have even lower quality items plus awful food.
I am happy to have the bazaar in the neighborhood but I miss the days when it felt like more of a “flea market” like the ones in Chelsea. Actual antiques, vintage furniture, lighting, objects of all kinds. The current bazaar is a squeaky clean crafts and food market, with a handful of sellers with more esoteric items. Very little variation from week to week. It does seem very popular with younger folks and it provides a festive atmosphere on Sundays.
The Chelsea Flea on 25th street is a more of a draw for me and I live only a few blocks from the Grand Bazaar.
The collectible coins are all low end dreck both inside the Bazaar and on the vendors table outside.
Never looked.
Did see “silver certificate” bills at a table on Columbus a couple of weeks ago. If real; those are hardly dreck.
Ha ha “20 years ago” – of course the vintage selection was better then! Everything “vintage,” if you mean 1940s and 50s, from china, to radios, to kitchen gadgets, to dresses, has been well picked over for the last four decades. What do you expect? I agree, those things are desirable, made differently, worth the find. But why wouldn’t it be gone the way of all things, especially at the flea market level? I still love browsing the old stuff, but it is slim pickings.
Notice how I didn’t simply say radios from the 1940s.
Nor did I imply that I only sought vintage radioes. Even on weekends without a minute “curated” old electronics table, the selection either simply copy what many stores have and/or are overpriced, eg LPs — all of which are cheaper at a place like Westsider Records on 72nd Street.
The big thing that’s changed over the last 25 years is eBay. So if you want a touchtone phone from the 1970s or 1980s, you look at eBay first.
Are those tables on Columbus just people who don’t want to pay Grand Bazaar rent? Is it legal to set up a table in a public side walk to sell things?
They’re illegal, and right not paying rent, but the City has stopped harassing them.
There use to be a gentleman who repaired watches at the flea market, inside the school. Anybody know what happened to him? Or a contact info?
The tables outside on the streets are much better.
