I’m so glad Assemblymember Rosenthal and her staff are continuing to hold this periodic event–providing a terrific–free!–service to the community. Great opportunity to safely and responsibly dispose of sensitive documents that are no longer needed and may be crowding file cabinets and closets. Thanks, too, to the West Side Rag for highlighting the initiative!
Ditto! I used the shred service last November and will use it again on Sunday. It is very quick and they do everything for you (but get the boxes over to 72nd Street). Great to have this!
P.S. The shredder is a big, industrial one (not like the one in the photo).
How does the service work? Is there an actual paper shredder on site where one feeds the documents themselves through the shredder?
The shredder is onsite in a huge truck. The person who works the shredder takes your papers from you and feeds them into the shredder while you watch. No, you cannot do it yourself.
It’s not expensive to get your own home/office paper shredder.
In any case, everything is put into large plastic bins and a truck sits in front of the building and does the actual shredding. The noise is over the top. I’m not sure why this has to be an ‘event.’
Wow! A whole day’s notice about the event. Thanks!
Assemblymember Rosenthal announced the upcoming event in her e-newsletter weeks ago. You can sign up for news from her office at: https://nyassembly.gov/mem/Linda-B-Rosenthal/enews/
(and if you can’t make it tomorrow, you might email her staff at rosenthall@nyassembly.org to ask when the next Shred Day after tomorrow’s will be)
This is a very helpful event that tends to happen twice yearly and Assembly Member Rosenthal is usually there in case you have any issues to mention about the neighborhood. I’ve used it the past couple years, it’s a quick receptive experience.
Thankful for this event! When the ad mentions limit 3 boxes, I figure the dimensions are equal to a typical file box? Does anybody know?
I have 3 fresh direct bags ready to go. I hope this will be okay! Any thoughts are welcome.
Very helpful…
I started sorting papers for the next event immediately upon my return home…
Thank you Assemblywoman Rosenthal for providing this service…😇
