With less than two weeks until its October 29th closing date, the Best Buy at 1880 Broadway, between 61st and 62nd Street, was the site of an attempted robbery on Saturday, October 15th at 3:55 pm.
The alleged would-be robber (pictured above) snatched a laptop worth more than $2,000, police told the Rag, “but he didn’t get away with it.” He did, however, get away. “When a 30-year-old male employee confronted him and recovered the laptop, the suspect pepper-sprayed him in the face and fled on foot. The store employee refused medical attention. No property was removed.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/Â or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
Update: Jordan Smith, 24, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, at 1pm on Tuesday, October 18, in connection with this crime. He was described by a police spokesperson as “undomiciled.”
Is he going to be kept in jail?
U.S. Constitution. New York State Constitution. Someone who is arrested is not automatically “kept in jail.” A person ordinarily is not held in jail unless and until they have been convicted of a crime.
Everyone please take note how often the 20th and the 24th precinct capture perpetrators and arrest them. They are doing their jobs. It is up to us to VOTE for people who will enforce the laws and let there be charges that stick once found guilty to prevent future crimes. The NYPD are doing it…our CURRENT elected officials and DA are NOT.
Thank you for the follow up.
Interesting that he was charged only with the attempted robbery. Nothing in connection with harming the employee with a pepper spray.
And, was the pepper spray of the type and concentration that was allowed to be sold in NYC? Or was it illegal? So many questions, so many ‘who cares’ from the DA’s office. Of course, if a law-abiding citizen is caught with the wrong kind of pepper spray, they will surely face life altering consequences.
Agreed. Would like to know more about why that is.
He used a weapon against a worker.,
He should be charf=ged with assault as well.
I accept innocent until proven guilty. Why is it sooooooo difficult to arrange a speedy trial so his case can be adjudicated? Seems like this is a big part of the problem related to repeat offenders.. Let’s set aside the perpetual Covid excuses. Is this the judges not managing caseloads? Is this the DAs. office being understaffed or not prioritizing these cases? Are they unable to find jurors? Is it the police not having enough evidence? I watch lots of Law and Order. They get perps tired quickly. What’s the issue?
This comment made me laugh, no offense. Law and Order? How about watching a Hollywood flick where cars explode yet the main hero emerges unscathed?
He’s found a new home. Briefly, anyway.
