On Thursday, the West Side Little League Juniors Baseball tournament team — the Hawks — won their opener in the Eastern Regionals against Delaware by a whopping 24-7. The Regionals are being played in Freehold, New Jersey, at Mary J. Tighe Park. The Hawks’ manager, Jim Glasgow, sent the following post-game report from the field.
“We played Brandywine Little League. We had 27 hits and 22 RBIs with 24 runs scored. Our defense was excellent and our pitching, including Xavier Lehmann, Brian Stone, Tyler McCarthy, Bennett Harrison and Toby Carmel, kept the BW LL to 7 runs. WS Hawks play Torrington LL, the Connecticut State Champs, Friday morning at 9 am.
This is the first time in the league’s 36-year history that one of its teams has won a state championship and advanced to the regionals.
Go Hawks!
