The Upper West Side shows higher COVID-19 positivity rates for zip codes 10023 and 10024, and lower rates for 10025 and 10069 compared to last week, with the Omicron BA.5 and BA.2.12.1 variants accounting for most of the cases, according to the weekly data reported by the NYC Department of Health on Wednesday. This does not take into account unreported self-tests.

We are in the who cares phase of this.
By now, hopefully you’ve gotten your 3 (or 4) shots. Wear a mask if you want. Goodnight.
you beat me to it. COVID is so 2020.
GET OVER IT!! It’s just not going to work anymore! someone else said this long ago…THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF!!!!!
Do you know who said that, Sharon Stan? It was President Roosevelt. He said that to inspire Americans to face and overcome challenges most of us could hardly imagine. And he did not employ flaming. He spoke firmly and reassuringly to a troubled and frightened country.
You are no Franklyn D Roosevelt
It’s just data, Sharon. Chill.
Why are you screaming at us?
Bigger and more urgent things to worry about
If muggings (or, heaven forbid, bicycles!) were putting ~100 people in the hospital every day, we know exactly what this comment section would look like. But somehow those same alarmists turn into denialists when it comes to COVID-19.
There are basic safety measures you can take to protect yourself and your family. Ask yourself why some people are dead set against that, and whether they’re folks you should be listening to.
I’m now in bed with Covid after 4 shots. Good luck folks.
For the families of people hospitalized or deceased, the pandemic is clearly not over. The current variants are the most contagious we have faced, and they are the best at immune evasion. As a result, people need to be more careful, not less.
Perhaps some people didn’t read to the end of the article. Every day 94 people are getting hospitalized and 6 people are dying:
“Daily average hospitalizations increased to 94 from 71, and 7-day daily average deaths increased to 6.”
Not sure what the point of denying reality might be, but we see it strongly in the comments.
I think that the positivity rate is affected by the number of tests being done — with fewer official tests (and more testing at home), it’s possible that more of the people who test are doing it because they have symptoms — a greater percentage of a smaller group.
On the train yesterday I purposely made note of the unmasked. Fully 75 percent in a slammed full car. Crosstown bus about 20 percent. The bus! My niece, boosted twice just nearly died of the virus. It’s just a mask, people.

I used the LIRR and MNR this past weekend. Rough estimate is less than 50% compliance with the NYS mask mandate on public transportation.
I asked a female Metro North train conductor why she wasn’t enforcing the mask mandate in Feb/March of 2022. She told me she didn’t want to get physically assaulted.
