The Upper West Side continues to show higher COVID-19 positivity rates than the city as a whole, according to the weekly data reported by the Department of Health. This does not take into account unreported self-tests.
Average 7-Day Positivity Rates
Zip Code 7 Days ending 5/17 7 Days Ending 5/24
10023 | 13.35% | 12.85% |
10024 | 10.00% | 11.92% |
10025 | 11.34% | 10.53% |
10069 | 9.41% | 12.89% |
For New York City, the daily average positivity rate for the seven days ending May 27th was 9.16%, compared to the 28-day daily average of 10.58%. Total average daily cases increased to 4,153 for the seven-day period, up from the 28-day daily average of 3,892. Daily average hospitalizations decreased to 70 from 81, and 7-day daily average deaths increased to 7 from 6, for the 28-day daily average.
The current alert level remains High.
7 dying per day in our zip code. Horrible. I wish there were more demographic data on them.
This is such a first-world problem. In Mali, they don’t even have zip codes.
I believe that number of 7 deaths per day is for New York City overall, not the Upper West Side.
It would be helpful to know just how the individuals think they contracted Covid. That might give us a clue as to what patterns lead to the spread of the virus
Husband goes in to work (midtown) using subway – could be either transit or work
The graphs published by the BOH show prevalence in age 40 and under. People are unmasked in gyms, bars, etc where there is close social contact.
Stay masked and stay safe.
Yes, and thank you everyone for the correction. 7 deaths per day for NYC feels better, although is still tragic.
Those figures are for the whole city.
That’s 7 deaths per day for the whole City.
And if you do a dive into the data you’ll see that it’s 1/500,000 per week, IF you’re vaccinated and boosted.
It says there are 7 deaths daily in NYC, not in our zip code.
That 7 daily deaths is for the entire City of New York and not just the Upper West Side.
7 deaths a day is indeed tragic, but that’s for the whole city, not just the UWS.
I think that’s 7 deaths per day citywide, not in our zip codes, yes? Still that’s 50 New Yorkers each week, 200 per month. Yikes.
For New York City, the 7-day daily average deaths increased to 7 from 6, for the 28-day daily average.
Beautiful photo!
Could it be out numbers are so high because there is a free testing tent/truck on every other corner? Other neighborhoods don’t have nearly as many so maybe other neighborhoods are doing more hime tests or not testing at all and so those tests aren’t recorded. Just a thought.
Def think you’re onto something Melissa. The at-home tests are scarce, not cheap, and not user friendly- all things not good for the older demos prevalent on the UWS. After finally testing poz (after 26 months !!!!) using the confounding Abbott test I ran around hunting for another make to confirm. A FREE curbside test could have been an option too.
You tested positive and then you ran around to confirm?
I’m not sure that’s the best approach to containing this….
Wear your masks people!
Yes, please. Be considerate to the others. You vaccination status doesn’t prevent you from spreading the virus.
