On Monday, at around 12:30 p.m., NYPD officers pulled the body of a man out of Swan Lake, commonly called the Pond, at the foot of Central Park, on Fifth Avenue and Central Park South. No name, age or cause of death was given.
“How does a dead body suddenly appear in this small body of water at 12:30 in the afternoon?” a WSR reader wondered. “From the sidewalk on 59th Street you can see the entire pond.”
A call back to the NYPD On Thursday revealed new details.
“The man was recovered from the water holding a knife in his right hand,” an NYPD spokesperson said, “and he had a small laceration in his neck. There was no I.D. on the body. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.”
We will keep you apprised of any new developments.

The body of a just deceased person sinks first and resurfaces a few days later. See the recent Naya Rivera drowning search.
59th Street and CPS are the same — please correct
Corrected, thanks.
Thanks for the update. I been searching on this everyday since it happened and you’re the only one that have additional info. I walk that area all the time so I really want to know what happened and if it’s safe.
Wow, a knife, and a small neck laceration. Self-inflicted? Knife fight? Quite a new development; thanks for staying on top of this.
Have said this before, and am doing so again; it is not wise to go into Central Park late/overnight. There are all sorts of people who camp out in park over night, and LE really only patrol the main loop and paths.
It amazes me to see people going into CP at 1, 2, 3 in morning as if it were nothing to worry about.
I have a son homeless and schizophrenic in NYC and keep checking to see if there is any other information. He has no ID and this is my biggest fear.
Sounds like a suicide..
Please keep us updated. I do not know where I could even inquire about anymore information regarding about this person.
Thanks
