The New Year’s Eve midnight run in Central Park and more local events are on our calendar.
Here’s how to dispose of that Christmas tree so it gets recycled and mulched.
There will be fireworks in Central Park at midnight to celebrate the new year. Happy New Year to all our readers!
News:
An Upper West Side couple say they were discriminated against by an Uber driver. They think he didn’t like the idea of two women raising a family. “‘When they reached their building, the driver was rude. He threw our bags to the ground aggressively.’ An hour later, Uber e-mailed Sara: ‘We are investigating a report from one of your recent trips. Your account has been placed on hold while we look into this.’ She tried for several days to get an explanation from Uber, but it wasn’t until I contacted the company that Sara’s account was restored. An Uber spokeswoman told me, ‘Uber does not tolerate discrimination of any kind on the app. Our support team is looking further into this.'”
Climate change is making rat infestations even worse. milder winters are helping them feed and mate longer into the year.

At one UWS pharmacist more than 100 people are on a waiting list for a hard-to-find shingles vaccine. “The Shingrix vaccine is at least 90 percent effective in warding off shingles, a painful rash that can erupt decades after childhood chicken pox.”

Finally New Yorkers are making fun of Trump Is Not a Tower! 😊
yes, finally! *eyeroll*
Yeah what’s interesting about that poster is that it is located directly in front of the construction site, under a sidewalk shed. No one, including the construction workers, have vandalized it. Even the people who voted for Trump have had enough.
Robert Mueller’s investigation is building the best case possible against Trump for Russian collusion and hacking our election process. Trump was never qualified to be President, he had zero political experience and a 30 year history of racism against Black people and Hispanics. A Queens NY podiatrist lied about Trump having heel spurs as a favor to help Trump dodge the military draft. Trump dodged the military draft 3 times. It’s disgusting how wealthy White men used their privilege to dodge the Vietnam draft, while so many poor men went to war and never made it back home.
Not this voter. Trump has accomplished more in two years than Obama did in eight! Obama’s legacy is one of racism…pitting different groups against each other!
Exactly GS, you’re are correct on each point.
And, just because something isn’t vandalized, doesn’t mean the message is condoned by EVERYBODY. People should understand that.
gs — your remarks are spot on.
Happy new year to WSR! I shall continue reading every post in 2019!
I’ve been trying to get a shingles vaccine since June, but my doctor keeps running out and/or can’t get more. I’ve had my name on a waiting list there, but still no luck as they understandably prioritize the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. I asked at the Duane Reade on 72nd & Bway just this morning and the pharmacist told me they stopped adding names to their waiting list because it got so long. She suggested going to a pharmacy located in a less residential area. Who knows?!
The Duane Reade up in Inwood (133-141 Dyckman)had some right before Thanksgiving – no wait list at all. There is also a CVS up there (not sure if they had stock as well) – both are close to the subway. You might try giving them a call to see if they still have some…….
Re:”… they stopped adding names to their waiting list because it got so long.”
Probably ’cause of all the lawyers…(wait 4 it)…lawyers DO have “Shingles”, no?
🤪
If you go to the website Shingrix and put in a zip code it lists a bunch of pharmacies/ doctors nearby.
The pharmacy (CVS at 93rd and Broadway) that gave me my first Shingrix vaccine in August says they now have over 300 names on their waitlist, and receive about 3 doses per month. I’ve given up trying to get the second. And no one prioritizes the elderly (I’m 80).
I would be delighted to live in Trump Tower. I cannot afford it.
Excellent President, despite obstruction of Congress.
I very much agree. Time for all US troops in the Middle East to come home, otherwise if a Democrat will be elected in 2020 they’ll be there for another twenty years.
About yer: “Climate change is making rat infestations even worse. milder winters are helping them feed and mate longer into the year.”
Soitenly! ‘special-lee dat part about feeding AND mating…oh, yeah!, the mating part!
Also, it be great that the winters is milder…so who needs floriduh! Dere’s nuttin’ down dere but big iguanas, and alley-gaters, and 2-legs from Lawn Guyland…at least I tink dat’s how itz spelled, ’cause dat’s how dey say it. Sumpin’ wrong wit deir noses or sumpin’.
And let’s be careful about dat “rat-infestation” thing…we’z don’t infest…we’z just a new ethnik group!
From the CDC website:
Due to high levels of demand for GSK’s Shingrix vaccine, GSK has implemented order limits and providers have experienced shipping delays. It is anticipated order limits and shipping delays will continue throughout 2019. In response, GSK increased the US supply available for 2018 and plans to make even more doses available in the US in 2019. Additionally, GSK will continue to release doses to all customer types on a consistent and predictable schedule during 2019. Updated November 2018
Nothing wrong with Trump Tower.
Re: “Nothing wrong with Trump Tower.”
Oh, sure! On the outside it’s a fine piece of interesting architecture…yup, nothing wrong with the exterior.
BUT:
1) Some fruits rot from the inside out; and
2) “’a fish rots from the head down’” means that leadership is the root cause of an organizations failure and demise….whether that organization is a country,OR ….”
