The death of a woman who fell from the 16th floor of 820 West End Avenue is “being investigated as a suicide,” according to a police spokesperson.
Police were called at 6:11 p.m. and found the 56-year-old woman’s body on the second floor landing of the building between 99th and 100th Streets. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The New York Post reported that the woman was at her boyfriend’s apartment, and that the police believed she may have been pushed. “Police began to suspect something fishy, because the window she fell from was closed when they arrived, so they brought in for questioning her boyfriend, who lives in the apartment, sources said.” The Daily News also noted that the boyfriend was taken in for questioning.
When asked about the Post report, the NYPD spokesman repeated that it was being investigated as a suicide.
The woman’s name was not released.

A suicide with that particular window closed?
Hmmm.
Terrible in any event.
I live across the street and watched the street action unfold from my bedroom window for several hours. Way past the onset, two cops put on bullet-proof vests and helmets, and entered the building carrying shields. A dozen guys in suits showed up, a cop carrying a tank of some sort went into the building… I finally had to go to bed, but there was still some activity.
As it happens, we had a suicidal jumper in my building a number of years, also to the courtyard. A lot of cops showed up, but nothing like what happened here on Wednesday night.
