A rendering of the new Shack presented to the Landmarks Commission earlier this year.
A new Shake Shack is set to open near Columbia University, and just in time for students to get their burger — and beer — fix before classes start.
The restaurant located at 2957 Broadway on the corner of Broadway & W. 116th Street will open on Wednesday, according to a Shake Shake rep. They’ll be serving the burgers, fries and chicken sandwiches that have made the chain famous, and will also have beer and wine available, including the Brooklyn Brewery Shackmeister Ale.
The restaurant will also have a neighborhood-specific shake, called the Heights Bites (vanilla custard, frosted butter cake and salted caramel sauce).
The restaurant will be donating 5% of its sales of its Pie Oh My dessert to the Fresh Air Fund.
Correction: We initially wrote incorrectly that 5% of all sales would go to the Fresh Air Fund.
The genius of Danny Meyer!
Opening this week for all us locals to be guinea pigs before all the students get back. 🙂 Can’t wait! (Though the signature milkshake sounds revolting to me…)
Oh I don’t know about that.
Move in days began on 18 August (for RAs) and have continued on a rolling basis over this week and next.
Depending upon when their leases began, off campus students likely have begun arriving as well.
Assuming it’s frozen custard (Wisconsin style) and not gooey East Coast custard, the shake could actually be awesome.
I can’t comprehend how so many people can be so negative and depressing. What a lousy way to go through life constantly being critical in the most ridiculous way possible.
Just to clarify…I’m pre-empting all those who will surely post after you complaining about this new restaurant. They will undoubtedly find some fault with Shake Shack.
I just walked by and there’s a line out the door.
Really? But the article says it’s not opening until Wednesday. Maybe today’s a soft open? I know where I’m eating dinner tonight!
Yummy!
Now I’m jealous.
I live near the one on W. 77th St. 😡
Kudos to the support of the Fresh Air Fund.
An amazing charity that helps underprivileged city kids that never get out of the city to go upstate to camp. I have personally seen the results of this great program.
Fresh Air Fund is indeed a great charity, but Shake Shack is NOT donating 5% of the new restaurant’s sales. 5% of the sales of one kind of pie go toward FAF. It’s better than nothing but a LOT less than advertised.
Thanks, we fixed that. WSR
It’s true — it’s a great choice!
Great news! After OLLIE’S moved out, the space was waiting for something—anything—good to eat.
Fingers crossed.
I’m glad to have a Shake Shack on the UWS. Just wish somebody would open a seriously good restaurant in the 90s!!
It’s already there – Gennaro’s!
