Want to get involved on the local level? You can apply to be on Community Board 7, a 50-person board that reviews local issues like development, liquor licenses and parks. Or apply to be on Community Education Council 3, a 12-member board that reviews public school policies and gets to vote on school rezonings.

I applied for CB7 a couple years ago. I wasn’t appointed, but the process is…interesting. At least there were snacks and coffee.
I applied in 2014/2015 and went through the process; didn’t get selected. I can’t say enough good things about both the process and the work of these dedicated, if a little wonky (like myself), fellow citizens.
I applied for a vacated seat mid-2016. I was never informed of the ultimate choice, never heard another word, never had my emails returned when I inquired.
