A wall surrounding the construction area on Columbus between 92nd and 93rd that is expected to become a Trader Joe’s collapsed amid high winds on Sunday, causing authorities to block off the area.
“Luckily no one was hurt,” wrote Victor, one of the tipsters who let us know. It does appear that at least one vehicle sustained damage. FDNY was not immediately to get us details about what happened. FDNY has requested a structural stability check from the Department of Buildings , according to city records.
DeBlasio strikes again!
omg, this post has been up for an hour and no one has blamed DeBlasio yet?
slackers.
Hmmm…to quote the late Robert Frost’s “Mending Wall”:
“Something there is that doesn’t love a wall, That wants it down!”
….
“Before I built a wall I’d ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offence.”
Are you listening, Mr. President-Elect?
Yes, yes; the more literate Trump-eters might respond with: “”Good fences make good neighbors.”
Perhaps, but probably not if you insist that your neighbor pay for it.
It was not a wall at all. It was part of the plywood that is put up over the openings in the building (where doors & windows will go).
The request for DOB to come out is standard just in case there is something unseen by FDNY.
Maybe it’s an omen
I happen to live in that building and know from experience that everything they do is very cheaply done, shoddy workmanship. When they did the building renovation the scaffolding was poorly erected and dangerous. One day a huge, heavy metal bolt almost hit me on the head. Missed me by inches. The workers were unconcerned, no apology. When I called management their response was “Well, you didn’t get hit”. I called 311 and was told they had up to 72 hours to come and inspect the situation. By then the point is moot. They get away with it and when I call Helen Rosenthal’s office they say call 311. I just don’t think any of them care. Very frustrating.
Yes, and then when someone actually does get hurt the news reports on the multiple previous violations and how nothing was done. It’s a circular game. Do nothing for safety, someone gets hurt, blame the fact that nothing was done for safety.
gotta’ do a Cost/ Benefit Analysis…that what happens.
I had constuction material fall onto my car this year.
i just figured i’d shake up the whole site before accepting their apology and compensation.
if your government won’t do their job, make it right on your own. everyone deserves to be safe.
