Firefighters battled an electrical fire in the basement of a building on West 72nd street early Monday, blocking off the street as they put it out.
The fire at 148 West 72nd, a five story building between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue, was called in at 8:03 a.m. About 30 firefighters were on the scene, and they had the blaze under control by 8:43.
No injuries were reported, according to an FDNY spokesman.
There’s a Domino’s Pizza shop in that building, but it’s not clear if that’s where the fire started.
M 72 detoured across 81st street.
Domino’s, Dunkin’ Donuts .. what this block needs is a Subway, a Starbuck’s, a Wendy’s, a Lid’s, oh and how about a Taco Bell? How about we bring back Krispy Kreme? Auntie Anne’s? Dippin’ Dots? Oh hell just open a gas station on the street and we’ll have ourselves a New Jersey turnpike rest stop! Right on 72nd Street!
Subway closed a few years ago.
@john, you failed to mention Lime Leaf, 72nd Street Bagel, Legend, the bubble tea shop, Grandaisy, Gray’s, Box Kite, Dynastia, and the host of other locally owned shops.
Yes, there’s a Dominos and a Dunkin Donuts, which sadly replaced City Pie. You can paint whatever picture you’d like, but thankfully we’ve each got eyes of our own.
Viva ECLAIR! Bring back Eclair!!!
