Several drinking establishments and clothing stores have just opened or are about to open. Check out recent Upper West Side openings and closings.
Ellington in the Park, which is in Riverside Park at 105th street, is almost ready to open, with the downstairs section set to open this weekend and the upstairs expected to open next weekend, says our tipster Eric who spoke to a worker at the site. It’s run by the same people who own The Ellington at 936 Amsterdam. Update: a tipster says the top and bottom are open as of Sunday, but just for drinks.
Bob’s Your Uncle, the bar that replaced Ding Dong Lounge on 105th and Columbus, opened last week. Their Facebook page is here.
The Hertz office on West 95th street between and Amsterdam is closing, several tipsters told us.
A women’s clothing store called J. Jill is opening at 160 Columbus Avenue between 67th and 68th street, the same building as Equinox sports club, the Post reports. Here’s the website.
Bolton’s is open on Broadway between 81st and 82nd streets. Thanks to Kevin for the tip.
LOCL View, a bar on the 16th floor terrace of the NYLO Hotel at 77th and Broadway, is now open. “Weather permitting, LOCL View will be open to the public daily from 4-9pm. Guests can enjoy wine, beer, seasonal cocktails and live acoustic music while taking in stunning views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline. LOCL View will also offer a Sunset Happy Hour daily from 4-7pm, featuring $8 wines and prosecco, $6 beers and a $10 craft cocktail of the day.”
Robert Graham, a clothing store, opened on the ground floor of the Time Warner Center, and will hold a grand opening on Saturday, May 9 with free snacks and drinks and a gift with a purchase.
The SoulCycle at 2465 Broadway, next to Equinox between 91st and 92nd streets, is getting closer to opening. Thanks to Alex for the photo.
RE:Hertz – bummer! While not the sexiest establishment to have nearby, I rented from them from time to time when I was in a jam.
I live right near the Hertz on 95 street and it is currently open.
I rented from hertz last week and they said Sunday May 10 would be their last day open for business.
Gosh…that really … umm … err…HERTZ !
😉
The Hertz at the location described is by far and away one of the worst customer experiences I ever had. The people who work there don’t give two f**ks about anyone walking in. They are rude, slow, and incompetent. The last time I rented a car there, I actually had to stop in NJ to have it replaced because it was not supposed to even be on the road. And when the Hertz in NJ updated the system about the car, the people in NY office tried to write over his findings. This eventually led me to call the corporate headquarters praising the NJ office and slamming the NY location. I never went back. Glad that location is closing and hope the people who work there go away too along with the cars. Worst. Customer Service. Ever!
Interesting. Their website was accepting this location for pick ups 12 months into the future as recently as January . The 95th St. Hertz location was opened about 3-4 years ago to replace the West 76th St. location – which wound up staying open or year or more longer than originally thought. Anyone know what the replacement location is for 95th Street?
I’ll answer my own question. According to Google Street View, at some point in the 12 months before May 2014, Hertz opened in the former Enterprise Rent-a-Car location at 157 West 83. All my future reservations however still show West 95th Street as the pick-up location. Clearly they don’t have their act together on the W95 closing.
I just rented a car ok Friday from the Enterprise location at 157 W83rd. They have not been replaced by Hertz.
Enterprise is at 140 W 83 is what used to be Avis. Hertz is at 157 W 83 in what used to be Enterprise.
GoogleStreet View settles all bets 🙂
Has anyone ever heard of Zipcar?
ZIP cars are only economical if you commit to a long term (monthly/yearly) contract. Otherwise, for single once in a while use, you’re better off with a car rental.
I was so excited about zip car but it never really kept my interest. I find the cost prohibitively expensive.
I’ve been a Zipcar member for 3 years. An individual trip can be pricey but spread them out over a year and it’s way cheaper than owning a car and more convenient than keeping one in the city. Just my personal experience.
Tired of yet another boutique opening on Columbus.
We need a good deli and a good Chinese restaurant.
Saw that there is a Serafina coming to Amsterdam and 122nd street.
“A women’s clothing store called J. Jill”
You are such a guy. 🙂
That is to say, this is a pretty long-standing and well known chain, catalog, and website. They are already in Queens and have been for several years. This is actually a chain store I’m excited about!
Sushi Shop looks like it closed too.
