Two civilians were injured in a fire on the first floor of a West End Avenue high-rise that brought out 60 firefighters on Thursday morning.
The fire at 580 West End Avenue (88th street) was called in at 9:14 a.m., and was escalated to an “all-hands” alert, drawing 12 units and 60 firefighters. The blaze was put out at 9:47, according to an FDNY spokesperson.
One of the injured people was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital.
The cause is under investigation.

That building is hardly a high-rise. It’s a 12 story building. Perhaps it was considered a high-rise in the 1920s.
I had also wondered about that “high-rise” description.
