Police are looking for the man depicted in the sketch above in connection with at least two violent robberies in the neighborhood.
The incidents occurred within hours of each other, according to the Daily News:
“The thief grabbed a 23-year-old woman as she entered a W. 106th St. building at 11:50 p.m. on Oct. 18, officials said. He slammed her against the wall and ran off with her pocketbook…Just a few hours later, at 3:30 a.m. the next morning, the thief followed a 24-year-old woman into her W. 107th St. apartment building, shoved her to the floor and ran off with her iPhone.”
He is described as being 6 feet tall and in his mid-40’s or early-50’s.
An NYPD source tells us that NYPD has heard of no other local incidents linked to this suspect since those two robberies in October.
If you have any info, call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
Statistics show that crime is down on the UWS.
There are no problems with gangs, drugs, shelters, vagrants, rapists, burglers, muggers, street defecators…
Anyone is claims otherwise is racist and should move back to where they came from.
Sorry, source:

there seems to be an attempt to show that we are in the middle of some sort of “crime wave.” an examination of the statistics shows that not to be true.
all violent crime (Murder, rape, robbery, felonious assualt) is down year over year — with the exception of rape. Rape is up but we are talking about a very few instances — 13 this year vs 9 a year ago. who knows why that is? someone should ask Capt Larin. But it doesn’t represent a “crime wave.”
yes, there have been increases in burglary and grand larceny, which are not violent crimes. Larin has said that there have been spates of shoplifting. These are bad but are not “dangerous”.
overall, ALL CRIMES in the 24th Precinct are up 2.63% from last year. this is not a “breakdown of the social order.” the UWS, including the West 90s, remains an extremely safe neighborhood. people who keep trumpeting otherwise for the most part have a political agenda.
Let’s keep it simple Bruce, what did you mean by this statement?
“Rape is up but we are talking about a very few instances”
c’mon out and debate Sam!! the challenge is there. or do you have to hide behind anonymity?
my statements were very clear. OF COURSE I did not “condone rape.” that is ridiculous. Nor the one murder that took place, instead of two last year. that is one too many.
this is how we proceed into demogoguery about crime. We have approx 350-400 murders a year in NYC… we had many more under your hero Giuliani. those are all too many. but that doesn’t mean the city isn’t safe. if you’re the person against whom the crime is committed, it’s always one crime too many.
One has to ask, “why is rape up?” are these date rapes? street rapes? have there been a rash of student rapes at Columbia that get recorded in the 24th precinct? and so on.
shame on you for engaging in such demogoguery, and trying to paint me as anti-women.
Rape is “only” up 13 vs. 9 from a year ago? And then you attempt to try to mitigate that by questioning “why?”, instead of being outraged like a normal human being? I’d like to see you pose that question directly to the 4 additional victims and see how they react to you.
so Paul, if 7 or 8 women had been raped instead of 9, would your “outrage like a normal human being” be just as great? Of course it would.
but Sam wouldn’t have published an alarmist statistic: “Rape up 44%”. it would have been “rape down 22%.”
You finally show your true colors Mr. Bernstein. How dare you downplay the 44% increase in rape this year?
“Rape is up but we are talking about a very few instances” A few instances Bruce? Try 5 instances. Try 5 more women and their families have had their lives changed forever by a brutal sexual attack. How dare you?
Your comments generally rub me the wrong way Bruce but this one takes the cake. You sir are a joke. You have the audacity to downplay the rape of women? Are you kidding me?
pure demagoguery. really sad. obviously i am against rape, and appalled by even one instance.
let’s take this out of the realm of your anonymous attacks on me.
I challenge you to a public debate on the issues of crime and race on the UWS. You can call me all the names you want at that debate. But i’ll have the ability to answer back without getting into a puerile back and forth in some comments.
Will you debate me on these issues?
that challenge extends to the other fear-mongerers on this site as well.
Webot I know you and I are on the same page, but taking a deeper look at the crime stats released as of last week
Year to date numbers for the 24th:
Murder down 50% (2 in 2013, 1 in 2014)
Robbery down 20%
Felony Assault down 25%
Rape up 44%
Burglary up 55%
Grand Larceny up 6%
Grand Larceny Auto up 27%
“Statistics show that crime is down on the UWS” – “There are no problems with gangs, drugs, shelters, vagrants, rapists, […]”; that doesn’t not mean you can take the opposite and carry that to its extreme to disprove the original statement. That’s disingenuous reasoning at best.
A priori name calling really doesn’t improve things here either.
Webot was being sarcastic, and ironically aping a certain someone on this forum. Clearly a successful effort.
The NYPD may never be there when you need them, but they have very good sketch artists.
Is there any information about the cross streets?
is he white, black, hispanic, or graphite? isn’t that important to include in the description?
He is gray.
We’re trying to get more info. WSR
People who keep denying the violent crime on our streets for the most part have a political agenda.
While the UWS and 90s maybe “safe” by some comparisons, clearly there remains a crime problem. Every day there appears to be another horrible event. and while yes statistically most of us are “safe” that does not comfort my neighbors who are the victims of these senseless violent attacks. Sorry, not acceptable! We are not the ones committing the crimes, or even posting them on this website. To quote an old phrase, I just know what I read in the newspapers (now blogs). and yet….some people who just use this to defend their far left political agenda. no matter the cost.
really sad.
