The Yard, a company that opens shared work spaces that people can rent, has leased a space on 67th street and Columbus, according to Collier’s International, which brokered the lease.
The space is set to open on the fourth and fifth floors of 157 Columbus Avenue, on the corner of 67th, “at the end of the third quarter,” a fancy way of saying “around September.”
Co-working spaces, where people who might otherwise work from home get to set up an office with other entrepreneurs and small businesses, have spread throughout other parts of the city. But the Upper West Side, which has lots of entrepreneurs but not the same tech buzz as downtown, hasn’t yet gotten a space. Sharon Schanzer, an entrepreneur who works in graphic design and business development, has been trying to get one set up. She even started a meetup to engage other people who work from home. We wrote about it a few months ago.
Schanzer’s been speaking to people at The Yard about this project and tells us it’s “‘thrilling news for the neighborhood which to date has been without a much needed and much wanted coworking and event space.”
It’s not yet clear what it will cost to rent space — there tend to be different rates for different amenities. At The Yard’s Lower East Side location, a private office suite for seven people costs $3,995 a month, while a spot in a shared co-working space runs $395.
