Hunan Park, an Asian restaurant on Columbus Avenue between 95th and 96th, is now Big Apple Asian Cuisine, and a local says they’ve raised prices considerably. “Menu has been radically up-priced,” wrote Jim, who sent in the photo above.
The menu has been expanded considerably under new management, an employee told us, but it does appear to be more expensive than the old version. The menu posted on Yelp for Hunan Park says pepper steak costs $10.25, while the new menu says it’s $14.
Glad this has reopened, but two of my favorite dishes seem gone from the menu: Pan Fried Noodles and Singapore Mei Fun.
Ate there tonight and they made pan fried noodles for me, even though it wasn’t on the menu. The price might have been a little higher than previously, but it didn’t seem bad to me, and came to only $13 and change with a coke.
I hope they cleaned up the place. Last time I stopped in, it was a dirty disaster.
This was a great place when it was “Hunan Park II”, owned by the folks who owned Hunan Park (now closed) at 70th and Columbus as well as Hunan Balcony on Bway. They sold it off to different owners, and the food was bad and the place got pretty seedy. Hope new ownership will bring a nicer atmosphere and better food!
I live in the building where this restaurant is located. Maybe a new owner, but no signs of their fixing up–cleaning–the inside. I complained to the landlord about their filthy, lack of concern for the exterior and interior. English is limited, with grunts and incredulous looks the main responses. When this restaurant opened, it was a gem, the owner was a prince, the food was divine.
i ordered regularly from Hunan Park but last week when I ordered “my usual” under the renamed and new ownership, I paid more and received less food. Also, they don’t have as extensive of a menu anymore (no more egg rolls either.. they have somthing similar they said but it’s $3 more — no thanks). Have to start the search for a new chinese take out place. ugh!
Good Night Big Apple – Prediction : closed by End of 2014
Nothing like a shinny new Health Grade of B to start off on the right foot
Once it closes this site and the two other stores will be closed, as was anticipated a few years ago and the site built out. This will be similar to what is being done at 733 Amsterdam (96 to 95).
And for those of you that think all of the protesting and our elcted’s efforts saved theses stores a few years ago—–they all got new leases but they now have a demolition clause in them. I.E. they can be told to leave within a very sort time, usually 90 days or less in this type of lease clause.
Who thought their menu was expanded? When we ordered and got the new menu, it’s really just a tri-fold brochure compared to the larger menu Hunan Park used to have.
“What a dump!”
How weird. I just had a menu shoved under my door. It’s for the old Hunan Park. It looks like the old menu and everything. Are they going back?
How weird. I just passed there, and it has Hunan Park signs back up. Does anyone know what’s going on? (I took a picture if you want it.)
