Arte Pasta, which replaced Dean’s pizzeria on 85th street just East of Broadway, opened a few days ago and we’re starting to hear good things. The restaurant is owned by the same people who own Arte Cafe on 73rd street, and the menu includes traditional Italian food.
Naomi tells us she already likes the place: “Same charm as Dean’s, better food, friendly staff…Waiter was a friendly electric rock drummer from Croatia. All staff friendly and smiley. Decor not too different from Dean’s but blown up photos of women eating spaghetti.” Time Out New York already has a few reader reviews, but one is suspiciously from July, months before the restaurant opened.
Jeff sent us a photo of the menu and we’ve posted it below, but it’s hard to read. Most pastas, including Rigatoni Siciliana and Linguini Alla Vongole, are $10 to $13 and main dishes are mostly $16 or $17. Antipasti include crab cakes and octopus.
Let us know if you’ve tried it, and whether you’re pining for Dean’s.

Went there the other night… it was GREAT… same basic decor as Dean’s, some sound-deadening materials. Staff from Arte Cafe on 73rd is training the new staff. Food was delicious and reasonably priced, service was great and welcoming. Hope they have a long and prosperous run!
We tried it and thought food was indeed better than Dean’s. Service a little rough still though and hoping they iron it out.
Good prices. Hope they don’t increase them.
Honestly, Dean’s had better flavor. The pasta sauce was not offensive, but certainly lacking. If you order sangria, then check your bill before jut paying it. The sangria was good, but we were chargerd $40.00 for two glasses. Obviously a mistake which needed to be overridden by manger. We will try it again to support this place and to see if things get better.
