Fall has us in its cold crisp grip, and there’s nothing you can do but enjoy it immensely.
There are a wide array of events in the neighborhood this weekend, and we have a fuller list up on our calendar. But here are some highlights:
On Saturday and Sunday, Crafts on Columbus returns to Columbus Avenue between 77th and 81st Streets. More here.
Starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, dog owners will gather at the Naumberg Bandshell for the My Dog Loves Central Park Country Fair. Dogs can mingle, learn play games, and meet celebrities who they won’t recognize. More here.
Do you have a kid who plans to attend public school next year? Then you might want to check out the District 3 School fair on Saturday at 11 a.m. at PS 165 on 109th Street. More here.
On Sunday, a truck from Castello Cheese will be giving out free cheese (10am – 1pm  on Broadway bet 64th and 65th Street and 2:30pm – 6pm on Broadway bet 82nd and 83rd Street We cannot vouch for this cheese, but we found someone who could.
@westsiderag We are Castello, we speak for the cheese. It comes from the Alps, try it free, if you please…

Barnes & Noble on 82nd will hold a Harry Potter Halloween Costume Contest at 7 p.m. on Saturday. More here.

Starting this weekend, a theater company called Rising Sun will be holding plays inside hotel rooms at Hostelling International on 103rd Street. We’ll have more on this, but check out the basics here.
On Sunday, a street fair will stretch from 86th to 96th to 106th Street on Broadway.
On Sunday, the New York Film Festival will show two slates of short films, as well as the Denzel Washington film Flight to close out the festival. Schedule here. Symphony Space is also showing some documentaries on Sunday.
According to their Facebook a/c, here is the schedule:
Weekend truck stop schedule – celebrate the weekend with free cheese!
Saturday, October 13th:
10am – 1pm – Broadway bet 64th and 65th Street 2:30pm – 6pm – Broadway bet 82nd and 83rd Street (near Zabar’s)
Sunday, October 14th: 10am – 1pm – 3rd Ave bet 80th and 81st Street (near EAT market) 1:30pm–6pm –79th Street and 1st Ave(NW corner) near Agatha and Valentina market
Must be pretty strong cheese — if they’re going to be on Broadway between 82nd and 83rd, they’re going to be two blocks north of Zabars (between 80th and 81st). They’ll be pitching their wares in front of Barnes & Noble or Harry’s Shoes.
Of course, like all other commercial real estate on the Upper West Side, that block is probably owned by the Zabar family, so I guess the posting is correct if you look at it that way.
Good point! We dumbly copied that zabar’s part from the press release.
It wasn’t you who placed that location as “near Zabar’s”. It was the first commenter.
Maybe the cheesefest *is* at Barnes & Noble….
I dunno; to me it all sounds kinda …………………………………………..CHEESY ?????
