News:
It wasn’t enough that Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine’s team is in the dumps. Valentine can’t even catch a break when he’s riding his bike in Central Park! Riding on Tuesday, he fell into a ditch near the Resorvoir. “On the wet, slippery path, Valentine was reading a text on his phone from Dustin Pedroia, the Red Sox second baseman, and riding his bicycle. When he looked up, he had to swerve to avoid the umbrellas of two French tourists walking in front of him. The bike skidded, and he lost his balance and went careening head over pedals down the side of the hill by the road.” He sustained minor injuries to his knees and hips. And yes, then the Yankees whupped the Sox. (NY Times)
The parks department was fined for failing to post leash rules in Riverside Park as ordered by the court in 2004. (NY Times)
City Council members are apoplectic at Homeless Commissioner Seth Diamond for the city’s response to the growing homeless population in the city and the use of “emergency shelters” like the one on 95th Street. Nonetheless, more shelters will open this year (no word yet if any going to be on the Upper West Side, although local officials have said there won’t be any). (Thirteen)
A three-unit bulk deal at The Laureate went for $21.9 million. (The Real Deal)
The West Side Rag got some nice attention this week. Real estate magazine The Real Deal profiled us in a larger piece on hyperlocal news sites in New York, saying the site “has wasted no time in getting noticed.” It’s a nice piece on a number of sites run by people “who are passionate about chronicling the goings-on in their communities.” And BrickUnderground published an interview with a Rag editor and called the site “wry, addictive, up-to-the-minute.” BrickUnderground is a must-read for anyone interested in New York real estate (which includes just about every New Yorker)
reading texts while riding your bike???????????? thats a new one even for me
And where, o, where, was Mr. Valentine riding his bike? The road, the -only- place where you can ride a bike in CP in not a “wet and slippery path”, with a ditch by the side. Was Mr. Valentine issued a summons?
