The statue above on 79th Street and Broadway appears to have had its arms broken in the past couple of days, according to Phil Vasquez. Of the newly installed sculptures, it is arguably one of the best (I really don’t understand the one at 72nd Street).

Lincoln Center has now completed its full $1.2 billion redesign, after opening the President’s Bridge across 65th Street, a bridge that was jokingly called the “Bridge to Nowhere” by a community board official when it was first unveiled. (NY Times)
A suspect in a series of robberies (including one that may or may not be connected on 86th Street) where the attacker threatened the victim with a needle was apprehended. (NY Post)
I’ve seen this piece of public art defaced…and, at one point, carrying an anti-Semitic message. Just awful, a bit of a reality check for many of us UWSiders.
But – that aside, this is a just a poor piece of public art. The stuff around the 72nd Street subway station generally adds something…but Miss 79th Street…I dunno…
Glad to hear that the perp who threatened people with a hypodermic needle has been caught.

Put a camera up so you can get a look at the creeps.
That’s art? I think you’re being charitable.
Yet another example of the increased sense of lawlessness that pervades the Upper West Side.
The broken window theory is correct that the more things appear that no one cares, the more crime it breeds.
The army of vagrants that has moved on to Broadway is the glaring example of this. Combined with hundreds of new shelter units and we have our downward spiral. Read the Village Voice cover article this week – crime is up double digits citywide. When the left wing Village Voice is demanding change, you know we are in trouble.
