When Ritz Camera on Broadway between 88th and 89th StreetsĀ began its liquidation sale last month we heard the familiar lament from Upper West Siders: “Watch, another bank’s gonna move in.”
But every so often, the skeptics are wrong (all right, they’re rarely wrong).
Thanks to our tipster Jeff, we’ve learned that the camera store will actually be replaced by another camera store. Cardinal Camera, a Pennsylvania based company that is in its third generation of family ownership will open in the space on Wednesday, the office manager there told us. They will sell cameras and camera equipment, process film, and offer photo retouching and other services.
It’s probably just a front for a bank.
As a photographer, I wish them well…but I think it an’t gonna happen.
Good news! But I wait to see if it is true news.
Yay – that would be great!
I’m a little behind on reading some of my e-mail. Perhaps, by now, the “new” camera shop will have already closed.
Strange thing about businesses. Why would one camera store succeed when another failed at the same location? Is it deja vu all over again?
