The city is stepping up its efforts to teach bike safety ahead of the start of the bike share program later this month. Basic rules will be written on the bikes themselves, and Transportation Alternatives is expanding its outreach. (as we reported, the Upper West Side won’t get bike share bikes until next year). Comptroller John Liu released a report Monday warning about cycling accidents and suggesting that helmets should be mandatory (they’re currently optional under NY state law).
