At the West Side Rag, we practice public service journalism (along with posting rumors and silly videos and other less noble pursuits). We got this email from a reader who is very concerned about a little girl whose teddy bear went missing from a school bulletin board at an Art Night at PS 9 last night. We are assured that “no questions will be asked” if it is returned.
Update: Bear found in school auditorium. Another childhood saved.
The photo and letter are below:
“Last night, during Art Night, a small 8 inch beige battered and overly loved teddy bear went missing from a bulletin board outside Ms. Jones’ room.
It was part of a display made by a little girl who was Star of the Week. It is her favorite teddy bear– one she’d had since she was a baby. A photo of teddy is attached.
The poor child is of course devastated. The family asking us to reach out to the community. If you have ANY information please let Ms. Kate know – no questions asked. We alerted the custodial staff who did not come across it at any time during their cleanup. There is a good chance that Teddy is still out there – taken by mistake – perhaps with your child or a child you know.
If you were anywhere near the little girl when she realized Teddy was missing, we know you can still feel the depth of her pain and  sadness. It was heartbreaking to witness. Please do spread the word, send positive energy in whatever direction is comfortable for you and please help us find Teddy.”
Upper West Side, don’t say we never did nuttin’ for ya.
Saw a bear that looked just like this one at the corner of westend avenue and 70th street yesterday. It was lying on top of the newstands there – as if someone had found it and propped it up for the owner to reclaim.
I am the mother of the child who lost her favorite bear. “Teddy” has now been found safe and sound and I can not tell you how happy my daughter is as a result. Thank you so much to those involved in the search. This is very much appreciated by all of us since this bear has lived with us for many years. Kind and warmest regards to you all..Sarah
