Rumors of openings and closings abound on the Upper West Side. If they do not all happen, please do not blame us. We’re just rumor-mongers.
A little birdy told us earlier this year that H&M was going to open a store on the second floor of the Time Warner Center, replacing Borders. Housewares and apparel store C. Wonder is taking half the space, but the Wall Street Journal (via Racked) has now heard from multiple brokers that H&M is indeed taking the other half, although the company hasn’t confirmed it.
Serafina recently opened a restaurant on the corner of 77th Street and Broadway. But a liquor license application indicates that the Italian restaurant chain may also open at 215 West 94th Street, at the Days Inn hotel. That said, a company employee said a couple of weeks ago that he hadn’t heard of any more local restaurants in the works.
And Sugar & Plumm Destination of Yumm on 78th and Amsterdam is getting closer to opening. For the first time, the controversial candy emporium (a protest website was set up to oppose it for fear that it will be garish and out of place) has even acknowledged its own existence, placing a logo up on the construction site. The New York Times recently said it will open this summer and have “a bakery, a candy store, an ice-cream parlor and a restaurant.” Thanks to West Side Rag reader Ronnie for the photo above.
We’ll be keeping on top of these and other recent openings and closings we’ve heard about in the coming days.
OH!!!!!!!I’M GETTING CHILLS DOWN MY SPINE JUST READING ABOUT THESE WONDERFUL OPENINGS ON THE YUPPER WEST SIDE
