The historic Ansonia on Broadway between 73rd and 74th got recast as a Park Avenue hotel last week, for a TV pilot starring Vanessa Williams and Terry O’Quinn of Lost. The show, called 666 Park Avenue, is about a young couple who take a job managing an historic New York apartment building. But their lives are complicated by some…supernatural events. Spooky! The show will air on ABC. It was filming in the area for much of last week, according to the website On Location Vacations.
Update: Our column on the Ansonia and the real 666 Park Avenue.
The Ansonia seems like a good fit for the pilot, given its own wacky history, which included a full working farm on the roof in the early 20th Century, and Plato’s Retreat, a notorious sex club that was later created in the basement.
Thanks to Aaron Judell for the photo.
I believe the show is called 666 Park Ave.
It is but the address of the hotel is 999. The reflection turnes it upside down and it becomes 666.
nevermind – I should read before I comment! sowie
Yes, it also had a “cattle elevator” to get the dairy cows to the roof. But the DOH closed the farm a few years later.
