A horse named Steel broke loose during the African American Day parade in Harlem and galloped through the streets of the city from 110th Street and Adam Clayton Powell West to Riverside Drive and then up to 116th Street. There a group of cowboys and police officers corralled the horse and pulled him into a grassy area to calm him down. Steel suffered a few cuts, but was otherwise okay. (DNAinfo)
A legal battle in New Jersey reveals more about the miserable saga of H&H Bagels. One business partner claimed in a suit that owner Helmer Toro and his companies owed more than $10 million in back taxes. (NorthJersey.com)
Today, the city is getting rid of the final remaining parking meter in Manhattan. Some of the parking meters have been remade into bike racks, as we wrote about a few weeks ago. Many more will be sold off at auction. (NY Times)
You can buy a tiny island off of New York in Long Island Sound. Called Rat Island, it’s about 2.5 acres and has been assessed at $265,000. The auction is next month. No one will visit you and restaurants won’t deliver there, but maybe that’s what you’re looking for. (Malcolm Carter)

What a crazy news round-up! Love the photo of Yogi the fire dog. What station is he with? When I was a kid on west 91st St, there was a fire dog that would still ride on the trucks. Very cool.
