A friend of mine used to call Ricky’s, the beauty supply and wild costume store, the Drag Queen Supply Company. There is, sadly, no actual drag queen supply company, so Ricky’s will have to do for now — and luckily the Upper West Side is about to get another one.
The New York Post reported this week that Ricky’s is moving into the space at 2385 Broadway on 87th Street owned by the Zabar family (yes, that Zabar family). It turns out the Zabars turned down banks and drugstores that wanted to move into the space, because they were holding out for a place that would fit in more with the Upper West Side’s neighborhood feel. Ah, our friendly neighborhood drag queen supply store.
Actually you’re wrong.
